Retrain the Brain
The "Retrain the Brain" program offers an alternative to medication for children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). Through a unique approach using multi-sensory handwriting, "Retrain the Brain" offers many advantages, including:
- capitalizing on the brain's capacity to influence itself -- it uses "bottom up" processing" to influence "top down processing." In impacting impulse control, it gives the child conscious control - self control, the ability to internally control his/her impulsive, hyperactive ADHD behaviors without medications.
- totally devoid of medication's side effects, it is likely to make the need for medication unnecessary.
- primes the brain for the learning process - it actually changes the brain. The regulated stimulation encourages brain growth which helps to "hard-wire" the young brain, enhancing its capacity to communicate.
- research has shown that movement and music have a profound impact on developing the literacy process, learning disabilities, special needs (Autism, Down Syndrome, developmentally delayed, etc.) and the brain injured.
Montessori knew 100 years ago that the hand was central in developing the intellect. Movement and music, the essence of sensory-motor learning, have been found to be instrumental in language development as well as in developing impulse control.
Given the 30 years of brain research that supports brain compatible learning, we now understand that multi-sensory handwriting is unequaled in its capacity to prime the brain and train it for the learning process. The benefits of this program are many and are easily demonstrated. All children can benefit from the environmental stimulation of handwriting and therapeutic music. It not only gives children the ability to gain impulse control but it gives them a head start on being smart!
